Carribie Mineral Water Takes the Spotlight on Nine's Today Show
There's a running joke in South Australia about how bad the tap water is. On Saturday 26 September, the rest of the country found out it isn't the whole story, as long as you choose a fine water from a coastal underground aquifer in this case.
Carribie Mineral Water was featured on Nine's Today show, where co-founder Damien Smith crossed live from our estate on the Yorke Peninsula. He spoke about the Fine Water Sumit in Montreal, Canada, where Carribie Mineral Water Still scored a perfect 100 points from key judge Pat Eckert this year. Back in the studio, the presenters poured a glass and tasted it on air.
A South Australian water with a perfect score
The segment was titled "Aussie company bottling 'fine water'", and the headline said it simply: SA-sourced H2O given a perfect score.
At the 2026 Fine Water Summit in Montreal, one judge rated Carribie Still 100 points and another judge, founder of the Fine Water Society Michael Masha scored Carribie Mineral Water Sparkling 99 points. Fine waters are judged much like wine, on taste, mouthfeel, balance and mineral profile, and a perfect score is rare.
For a water drawn from one small corner of South Australia, it was a remarkable result. Seeing it shared with viewers around Australia was a proud moment for our family.
Where Carribie comes from
Carribie is drawn from a single protected aquifer, the Carribie Basin on the Yorke Peninsula, near Daly Head. The name means "where emus drink".
Rain that falls here filters slowly through ancient marine sands and limestone for decades before it reaches the aquifer. That long, natural journey is what gives Carribie its distinctive mineral structure. It's also why the Today segment described our "unique mineral profile" as what shapes the taste. We never bottle in plastic.
Why people call it "fine water"
Fine water is to everyday bottled water what fine wine is to cask wine. Every source has its own terroir, and its minerals change how the water feels and tastes.
People who try Carribie often mention its softness, a gentle sweetness and a creamy mouthfeel. It's made to sit at the table beside good food and wine, not to be gulped from a gym bottle.
That's why you'll find Carribie on the tables of some of Australia's best restaurants. Carribie has also been named the official water of the 2027 Masters of Wine Symposium.
